Bachelor's in Germany, after Class 12
Most Indian 12th graduates reach a German bachelor through a Studienkolleg, a strong JEE Advanced rank, or one year of Indian college. Here is exactly how each route works.
Most CBSE / ICSE / State-board 12th graduates cannot enter a German bachelor directly (12 vs 13 years of schooling). You attend a one-year foundation college (Studienkolleg) and pass the Feststellungsprüfung, which then qualifies you for the degree.
A strong JEE Advanced rank (roughly the top ~7,000) can qualify you for direct admission to technical programs at some German universities — skipping the Studienkolleg.
Complete the first year of a bachelor in India in a related field and you become eligible for direct, subject-restricted admission in Germany in the same field, no Studienkolleg needed.
A handful of (often applied-science or private) universities admit strong 12th graduates directly into English-taught bachelors. Always confirm the exact entry requirement on the program page.

Step-by-step detail
Mandatory for Indian students. Apply at aps-india.de (~₹18,000). Takes 6–10 weeks — this is the first gate, so start immediately.
Apply (uni-assist or direct) and obtain your admission letter (Zulassung). Winter-semester deadlines are typically 15 July.
Deposit €11,904 (released ~€992/month). Allow 4–6 weeks for the Sperrbestätigung confirmation letter.
Get travel health insurance valid from your departure date; you switch to German public (GKV) student insurance after you enrol.
Create your application at digital.diplo.de, fill the national (Type D) visa form and upload your documents before booking the appointment.
Bring two identical A4 document sets plus the originals. The national visa fee is about €75. Slots are limited, book early.
Decisions usually take 6–8 weeks. On arrival, register your address (Anmeldung) within 14 days and convert your visa to a residence permit at the Ausländerbehörde.

A Sperrkonto proves you have funds to cover living costs during your studies. You must deposit the full annual amount before submitting your student visa application, the embassy will not accept partial deposits.

How to Open a Blocked Account — Step by Step
Expatrio, Fintiba, and Coracle are the main options. All are accepted by German embassies. Differences are mainly in setup fees and processing speed.
Deposit €11,904 from your Indian bank account via international wire transfer (SWIFT). Account opens in 3–7 business days after funds clear.
The provider emails a PDF confirmation letter (Sperrkonto-Bescheinigung). This is what you submit with your student visa application.
Include the letter in your visa packet. The embassy confirms the funds are locked.
After arriving and registering at the Einwohnermeldeamt, activate your account. €992/month is released to your German bank account.
Students under 30 qualify for subsidised public health insurance (GKV) at ~€123/month. You must enrol within 3 months of university registration or you'll be locked into expensive private insurance.

APS stands for Akademische Prüfstelle (Academic Evaluation Centre). Indian students must obtain an APS certificate before applying for a German student visa. The APS verifies your academic credentials.

APS Interview
